The Magic Words: A Motivational Story of Encouragement and Child Success
It was 4:45 PM on a Thursday in March 2000, when Siri, her
face pale and eyes clouded with worry, clutched her daughter Idika’s marks card
tightly in one hand, while her other hand gently held Idika’s. The weight of
the day’s events seemed unbearable as they slowly walked toward their car.
Tension hung in the air as Siri processed the harsh feedback she’d received at
the management meeting.
As Siri slid into the driver’s seat and started the engine,
her mind replayed the critical words. She was unaware that Idika, too, had
faced her own struggles earlier that day.
Driving down the quiet road, Siri’s thoughts spiraled, but a
sudden jolt of the brakes snapped her out of her trance. Idika, ever observant,
turned to her mother with a concerned look.
“Mummy, are you okay? You look like you’re carrying the
weight of the world on your shoulders. Did the management say something bad
about me?” she asked, her voice filled with worry.
Siri quickly masked her emotions with a bright, reassuring
smile. “No, sweetheart, everything is perfectly fine. In fact, they told me you
were absolutely brilliant. You don’t even need to go to school next year!”
Idika’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Oh, Mummy, you got happy
tears, didn’t you?”
Siri smiled, her heart swelling with pride. “Definitely, my
darling. I couldn’t be more proud of you.”
Idika, feeling inspired, asked, “Mummy, why don’t we make
today a special day? We can celebrate and make it unforgettable!”
Siri, touched by her daughter’s thoughtfulness, replied, “Of
course, darling. We’ll celebrate at 6:00 PM today. It’s a date!”
But deep inside, Siri was concerned. If Idika noticed her
distracted mood, she might start questioning things, maybe even look at the
letter from the school. Trying to push the doubts aside, Siri forced a smile as
they drove on.
Later that evening, after a small celebration, Idika,
exhausted from all the fun, fell asleep early. Siri stayed up, quietly planning
the next few months for her daughter’s growth. She had crafted a schedule to
ensure Idika excelled academically, but also in life skills. The walls of
Idika’s study room were adorned with motivational quotes like:
- “To aim is not enough; you must hit!” – German Proverb
- “Perfection is unattainable, but if we chase perfection,
we can catch excellence.” – Vince Lombardi
A drawing of Idika holding a golden cup was proudly
displayed, titled *World’s Best Performer*.
At first, Idika didn’t fully understand the purpose behind
all the hard work. She thought her mother was being too strict, pushing her too
hard. After all, she had already earned a good academic certificate—wasn’t that
enough? Why did she need to practice more?
Siri patiently explained, “Idika, darling, you’re competing
with the best—students from around the world. You must work hard and never stop
improving.”
Despite the challenge, Idika asked many questions, seeking
to understand the changes. Siri answered each one, guiding her daughter with
care and love.
“You will become the world’s best performer,” Siri assured
her. “You have hidden talents that will help you achieve your dreams. Remember,
every mistake is a lesson. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll
become.”
Months passed, and something incredible happened. Idika,
once resistant, began to embrace the routine. She developed a passion for
mathematics and became quicker with calculations. Even her chess skills
improved, sharpening her analytical thinking.
She also learned to manage her time better and began solving
complex problems in her spare time. Siri made sure to check her progress
regularly, always offering praise and constructive feedback. Idika’s memory
sharpened so much that she could memorize over a hundred things at once.
One day, Idika participated in the World Memory Championship,
and, against all odds, she won a gold medal.
In her victory speech, Idika stood tall, radiating
confidence. “I’m so thankful to my school for believing in me and giving me the
chance to shine. But most of all, I’m thankful to my Mummy for always
encouraging me to push harder, dream bigger, and never give up.”
Siri, too, was invited to speak at the event. The audience,
curious about Idika’s rise to success, wanted to know how the school supported
her. As Siri stepped onto the stage, her eyes welled with tears. She was about
to share a hidden truth.
With a trembling voice, Siri began, “Idika, my sweet girl, I
want to praise you for your exceptional achievement. You’ve worked harder than
anyone I know, and I am so proud of you.”
Idika, with a huge smile, shouted, “Mummy, I love you!”
Siri, smiling through her tears, replied, “I love you too,
sweetheart. But now, I want to tell everyone the truth…”
“Fifteen years ago, your school’s management told me you
were ineligible to move to the next grade. They said you weren’t good enough to
stay in school. But look at you now, my darling! You’ve proven them wrong.”
She paused, looking out at the audience. “I want to tell
every parent here—never underestimate your child. Every child has something
special inside them. Maybe it’s not visible right away, but with the right
encouragement, they will shine. Don’t label them as failures just because they
don’t fit into the traditional academic mold.”
Tears streamed down Siri’s face as she continued, “Encourage
them with magical words: *You will do it. You can do it. Never stop believing
in them.*”
Moral of the Story: Never underestimate a child’s potential, no matter how they perform in academics. Every child has their own unique path, and with encouragement and support, they will find their way to shine.
