Moral Story: The Importance of Focus and Staying on Your Path
As December rolled in, most teachers were wrapping up their
syllabuses. Among them, the English teacher was the first to finish her
lessons. She introduced a weekly moral story discussion every Saturday to give
the students a break from their studies.
The students felt relieved, knowing they could look forward to an hour of relaxation each week. Little did they know, this story would teach them an important life lesson.
The Story of Shine: A Tale of Distraction and
Consequences
After trekking for miles, he stumbled upon a breathtaking
sight: a crystal-clear river, teeming with vibrant butterflies and exotic
birds. Fascinated, Shine decided to get a closer look. As he surveyed his
surroundings, his eyes were drawn to a unique boat, beautifully carved with
intricate designs. Mesmerized by its beauty, he stepped into the boat, and to
his surprise, it began moving on its own.
The early morning mist and the stunning scenery left Shine
in awe. “Wow! What a beautiful view!” he exclaimed, his voice echoing through
the forest.
But as he relaxed, enjoying the moment, a terrifying sound
interrupted his peace—a lion’s roar. Panicked, Shine quickly steered the boat
to the left, unwittingly straying off course into an unfamiliar part of the
forest. The roar faded, but Shine didn’t notice that he had lost his way. He
continued paddling, oblivious to the danger ahead.
After some time, Shine stopped the boat and gazed at the
serene beauty around him. He couldn’t see any animals or people. Then, he
turned his attention back to the boat, admiring its beautiful design. “This
would make such a great souvenir from my adventure,” he thought.
It was now late in the afternoon, and Shine was exhausted. He could barely carry the boat anymore, but the idea of leaving it behind seemed impossible. As he stood there, lost in thought, the roar of the lion sounded once more. He glanced around but saw nothing. In an instant, the lion leapt from behind and attacked, ending Shine’s life.
The Lesson: Focus on Your Goals, Not Your Desires
After the story, the teacher asked the class, “What is the
moral of this story? What can we learn from Shine’s journey?”
Most of the students responded, “Desire can lead to danger,”
and “We should not be greedy for things that distract us from our path.”
The teacher nodded and shared the deeper lesson.
“My dear students,” the teacher began, “The purpose of this
story is to remind you that life will often try to distract you. Shine started
his journey with a clear goal, but along the way, he became distracted by his
desire for the boat. His obsession led him to lose focus and go off track,
which ultimately caused his downfall.”
“Once you leave school, distractions will arise. You may
find yourself sidetracked by temptations or negative thoughts. But staying
focused on your true goals is key to achieving success. Losing your focus can
lead you away from your dreams, just as it led Shine away from safety.”
The teacher concluded with powerful advice: "Remember,
in life, it’s not about what you desire; it’s about staying focused on your
true path. If you stay true to your goals and avoid distractions, you will lead
a happy, successful life."
